News

EcoBD Lab celebrates the publication of the special issue Cuadernos de Investigación No. 256: Creatividad y Biodiseño, a collective work bringing together research and reflections on biodesign as a driver of sustainable innovation.

The volume was coordinated by Esther Pizarro (Universidad Europea – Creative Campus), PI of EcoBD Lab, together with Daniella Di Bella (Universidad de Palermo), and is the result of international academic collaboration between the Universidad Europea de Madrid and the Universidad de Palermo.

The publication explores how multidisciplinary collaboration between science, art, design and technology makes it possible to generate creative solutions to global challenges such as climate change, the ecological transition and the circular economy. Biodesign is presented as a hybrid discipline that integrates biology, sustainability and creative thinking, with particular attention to the development and use of biomaterials.

The special issue is structured in three thematic sections:

  • Research on bio-based materials, including cellulose and artificial intelligence.
  • Art, bioinspiration and circularity, with regenerative approaches and methodologies such as Biodesign Thinking.
  • Conceptual and technological reflections on ecology, evolution and materiality in contemporary art.

Several members of EcoBD Lab contributed as authors, consolidating the group’s research line in material ecology, new materialities and sustainable creative practices.
