Abstract

The publication Creatividad y Biodiseño explores how multidisciplinary collaboration drives innovation and generates sustainable solutions to global challenges. This volume, the result of a collaboration between Universidad de Palermo and Universidad Europea de Madrid, addresses biodesign as a discipline that integrates biology, design and sustainability. Through nature-inspired approaches and the use of biomaterials, biodesign fosters ecological and educational practices, highlighting its potential to tackle climate change and promote the circular economy.

The research group Ecosistemas Creativos y Biodiseño: EcoBD Lab leads this effort, researching biomaterials, bioinspired environments and ecological art. Its projects showcase the development of sustainable materials, functional designs and artistic practices that combine science and technology, with the aim of moving towards a regenerative future.

The publication is organised into three thematic sections: research into bio-based materials, including cellulose and artificial intelligence; art, bioinspiration and circularity, with studies on regeneration and methodologies such as Biodesign Thinking; and conceptual and technological integrations, reflecting on ecology, evolution and the use of glass in contemporary art.

This publication is a testament to creativity as a transformative tool, demonstrating how biodesign can redefine human practices for sustainable coexistence. The result is the fruit of academic collaboration and the integration of knowledge to generate a lasting impact on society and the environment.
